Continuing the Peace series, How Do You Sleep is a homage to John Lennon who was at the forefront of bringing attention to the peace movement throughout his life. The numbers represent his life with 40 years being his age at death and birth date of 09th October 1940 in Liverpool UK to 80 being the year of his tragic death on 08th of December 1980 in Manhattan New York USA, were he was murdered by gunshot outside his apartment the symmetry of these numbers along with his name including “ono” also the name of his wife Yoko Ono reminded me of a Rorschach inkblot test. The murder of John Lennon is the subject of the 2006 film The Killing of John Lennon. 2006 also saw the release of the The U.S vs. John Lennon a documentary film that details attempts by the U.S goverment to silence Lennon the anti-war activist striving for world peace.
John Lennon: “Apathy isn’t in and we can do something!”
Although I never got to see The Beatles perform my Mum & Dad did go to watch The Quarrymen and used to go to the Jacaranda and The Cavern in the early Sixties when Merseybeat was in it’s heyday. In the late 50’s early 60’s my dad bought a Boosey & Hawkes guitar (now called Framus) from the famous Hesseys and still believes that it could have been owned by or played by one of The Beatles or Merseybeat groups as it was bought second hand and Hesseys was a shop were all the Skiffle Bands around that time would trade up there guitars (well I ve always loved that story, so yeah – I own a guitar once played by The Beatles!!)
